The ride to help kids with autism

Autism affects approximately one in one hundred Australians. Often characterised by difficulty with social interaction and communication, autism is a lifelong developmental disorder which affects people in a variety of ways; some live relatively normal lives while others require specialist support.

Importantly early intervention can make a difference by helping children with autism to develop skills that encourage independence, the ability to communicate and opportunities for inclusion.

One organisation providing life-changing early intervention in Australia, is AEIOU Foundation.

I’m proud that my company, Tolerro, is backing the work of AEIOU through the 2018 Chain Reaction corporate cycling challenge. This fantastic initiative aims to raise $1m in support of charity partners AEIOU Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.

The ride will see 60 participants, including Tolerro’s own Catherine Daly, undertaking an incredible 1000km, seven-day journey from Christchurch to Queenstown on New Zealand’s South Island.

AEIOU does tremendous work helping young children with autism and it’s great to know the money raised from this ride will help to build a new facility in Logan.

Similarly, funds raised will help Ronald McDonald House to meet the growing need for accommodation which has increased since the building of the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane.

Tolerro will sponsor a competition jersey for the Chain Reaction ride, a commitment which was recently welcomed by the Chair of the Queensland event, Michael Byrom who told me:

“Fundraising is hard work and I’d like to offer our thanks and appreciation for your support, especially as you also supported us for the women’s Chain Reaction event in 2017.”

The 1000km New Zealand event starts in Christchurch on 3 March.

If you’d like to donate please click here to help Tolerro’s Catherine Daly as she jumps in the saddle for this important cause helping children and their families.
